LESSONS FROM DR. VERONICA CHAN

Dr. Veronica Chan of the University of the Philippines Microbiology department, I've known her even before she became my professor at UST, not because of her brilliance being pioneer in the Philippine field of Virology and her impressive contribution in Microbiology not only in the Philippines but beyond - I've known her for her "terror" reputation where she is able to render a failing grade for 22 students out of 25, so they say.

I saw her in a different kind of light when she actually came in flesh as my Virology mentor at graduate school this semester, she is after all not that bad (well, who knows, the semester is just starting!). She told us a lot of very good comparisons between viruses and human beings specially with human relations which makes the subject enjoyable, she also jokes and sing more than any other professor? so why are people posting bad blogs about her? maybe I'm yet to find out. I don't really care but the best thing she gave to me is this "there is a reason why the head is above the heart, it is because the heart is uneducable and that the head must be used no matter how difficult". For a living national scientist, it is rare to find wisdom in the package.
